The Classical Liberal Arts Academy will one day be recognized as the most excellent Christian educational program in the world. We are still in the developmental stages of the program, and the results are already extraordinary. We recommend that parents who want their children to receive the education we offer get started and allow us, over time, to work with their children as they progress. There's no need to wait until everything is finished, and you'll only hurt your children by doing so.
Understanding the Curriculum
Students coming into the CLAA are in one of two classes: Dependent or Independent. Dependent students are those who cannot complete tasks on their own but must be helped by an adult or older sibling. Such students may not be able to read or write, or they may lack the discipline to do their studies. Our goal for such students is not to play with content, but to make them independent students.
A. Petty School (Ages 3+)
Students who are unable to work independently should enroll in our Petty School program. These courses are intended to be used by parents to lead students to independence, while providing an introduction to important concepts. While there are many excellent courses available, we recommend that young students begin with the following courses:
- Classic Catechism I
- English Reading
- Handwriting I
- Practical Arithmetic I
Note: These courses are available at a discounted rate in the CLAA's Petty School Starter package.
B. Grammar School (Ages 5+)
The classical liberal arts curriculum begins with the study of Grammar. By "Grammar" we do not mean the "Grammar Stage" nonsense that is taught by modern "classical education" people, but the true and historical art of Grammar. Students must learn to understand ideas and language in a way that allows them to move efficiently through all studies, including classical philosophy and Christian theology. While there are many excellent courses available, we recommend that students begin with the following courses:
- Classical Grammar I
- Handwriting III
- Practical Arithmetic III
- World Chronology
- Sacred Scripture I
- Classic Catechism II
Note: These courses are available at a discounted rate in the CLAA's Grammar School Starter package.
C. Academy (Ages 13+)
The full classical curriculum opens up at the Academy level, for students who have acquired sufficient mastery of Grammar and intellectual development to move into the study of classical Reasoning, Rhetoric, Arithmetic, Geometry and Moral Philosophy. Academy level courses are only open to students who have demoenstrated the ability to succeed in our Grammar School courses.
Parents may elect to purchase individual course enrollments for their children or make use of one of our discounted subscription plans. Both have pros and cons.
- Course Enrollment: Best for new families, enrolling 1-2 students; no course deadlines
- Subscription Plan: Best for committed familmies, enrolling larger numbers of students (3+)
